Sylvia Burleson, wife, mother, businesswoman, passionate about entertaining.
Hosting and entertaining have been engrained in me from a young age. My grandmother, who I’m named after, loved entertaining. Much of my childhood memories are of the two of us parading down the aisles of fabric stores looking for the perfect linens for a table setting or climbing up into trees in our backyard to collect branches to spray-paint and add to a floral arrangement. She taught me to strive for excellence and pay attention to the little details. Being on a limited budget, she always found ways to reuse and recycle. This taught me the importance of mixing classic, quality pieces with less expensive pieces to create a beautiful balance that was perfect and yet practical.
When my husband and I were married in 2010 we, like many newlywed couples, were starting fresh with small resources but big dreams. In our small starter home, we enjoyed hosting family and friends for dinner, game nights, and parties. I started cultivating a staple collection of serving pieces and rotatable decor. Whether it was a large group or intimate dinner with another family, I took pride in setting a table and serving food with an elegant display.
Parties are my favorite thing. I love all of the thought and detail that go into a party from the intricacies of incorporating personal elements for the guest of honor to the simplicities of adding layers to make an otherwise stuffy environment warm and inviting. My idea of a perfect party is when all attendees, old and young, are engaged and happily gathering together.
My hope is that through this blog I can document hosting events and through this inspire you to spend more time gathering with family and friends.
